IT Account
Your IT account will give you access to all of the digital resources available at the university.
IT Account
Your user name is your university student number prefixed with the letter 's' e.g. s1234567.
Your password is key to protecting the security of your account. You'll need to set a complex password that has a minimum of 14 characters and contains three of the following: capital letter, lower case letter, symbol and number. Your password must not include personal details.
Password Self Service
We recommend that you manage your account using the Password Self Service Portal. The portal allows you to reset a forgotten password or unlock your account at any time. Visit pwportal.glos.ac.uk to access.
Multi-Factor Authentication
Student accounts are protected with Multi Factor Authentication to add an additional layer of security to your account. This requires the registration of a mobile device as your additional authentication method.
Student Card
Your Student card is your identity on campus and allows you access to buildings and services including the libraries. Please make sure you carry your Student Card whenever you are on campus.

Wifi - Eduroam
Eduroam wifi is available for connecting to the internet on campus and in your accommodation.

Our wireless internet on campus and in accommodation (excluding Pittville and Blackfriars) is called eduroam. Information on connectivity at Pittville and Blackfriars can be found here
How do I connect?
- Select eduroam from the list of available networks.

Password:
Your university password - Click Connect.
If you're asked to accept a security certificate click Continue (or OK, Accept or Trust).
Please make sure you've enrolled before attempting to connect to the wireless network.

Microsoft Office 365
Microsoft Office 365 is an online portal that gives you access to Office web applications and much more.

Your Microsoft Office 365 account is free while you study with us. Office 365 is an online portal that gives you:
- Web access to Office apps, like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive and Teams.
- The ability to install Office on PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones – for free!
- 5 TB of OneDrive cloud storage.
- Share documents and collaborate with people on your course.
To access Office 365, go to office.com and sign in with your university email address e.g. s1234567@glos.ac.uk
To install Microsoft Office on your Windows or MacOS device
- Visit office.com
- Enter your university email address e.g s1234567@glos.ac.uk you'll be redirected to the university sign on page.
- Enter your university password.
- Look for 'Install Apps' to install the latest version of Microsoft Office.
To install Microsoft Office on your iOS or Android device
- For Apple devices go to the App Store and for Android devices go to the Play Store.
- Search for the individual Office apps and install.
- Sign in to the Office apps using your university email address.
To install Microsoft Office on your Chrome device
To access Microsoft Office on a Chromebook please visit the Microsoft guidance.
Once you complete your studies your Office 365 account will be closed. If you wish to keep important work, emails and email contacts please make sure you make a copy of the information in good time before you leave.

While you are studying with us you have up to 5TB of online storage to save your work.

Microsoft OneDrive
Microsoft OneDrive is an Office 365 app that provides you with 5 terabytes (yep 5 terabytes!) of online (cloud) storage space. Your private OneDrive can be accessed via the web on the Office 365 portal or via an app on your mobile device and computer. It's a great place to store your work, and have it accessible whenever you need it.

To access your OneDrive via the web:
- Visit office.com
- Enter your university email address e.g s1234567@glos.ac.uk you'll be redirected to the university sign on page.
- From the list of Office apps go to OneDrive.
University storage (Home Folder)
Your personal home folder (network drive N) is only available on campus computers and provides you with 5 gigabytes of storage and is useful for quick storage when you're moving around campus.
University computers
In order to provide you with a good study environment we like to keep computers on campus in good shape. Most campus computers run maintenance software that refreshes and cleans the computer when it is restarted. The refresh clears any data that is stored on the desktop so we recommend that you check where you're saving your work – either to the OneDrive or your Home Folder.

Undergraduate students receive £5 print credit at the beginning of each academic year. Printing charges can be found on MyHelp. You can view and top-up your print credit on the IT & Library MyGlos Dashboard or via https://myprint.glos.ac.uk.
Printing and scanning
You can print, scan and photocopy A4 and A3 documents from any university MFD (multi-functional device) on any campus. Large format printing for A0, A1 & A2 sizes is also available in each campus Library.
MyPrint allows you to print to the MFDs directly from your personal device using Web Print functionality. MyPrint is available on the IT & Library MyGlos Dashboard or via https://myprint.glos.ac.uk.

If you are suspicious of any communication that you receive, or think that you have been the target of a cyber-attack, please contact us via ITandLibrary@glos.ac.uk or 01242 714044 as soon as you can.
Passwords
Your password is key to protecting the security of your account. You'll need to set a complex password that has a minimum of 14 characters and contains three of the following: capital letter, lower case letter, symbol and number. Your password must not include personal details. Please also be aware of the following:
- Never write your password down
- Never share your password with anyone
- Don't let anyone observe you type in your password
- If you think someone has got hold of your password, change it immediately via the Password Self-Service portal and then contact us to let us know your account may have been compromised.
Multi-Factor Authentication
Student accounts are protected with Multi Factor Authentication to add an additional layer of security to your account. This requires the registration of a mobile device as your additional authentication method.
Phishing Emails
A technique used to fraudulently obtain usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and other sensitive information. Phishing emails typically ask you to open an attachment, or click on a link where you may be prompted to enter personal information.
- Remain sceptical, if something looks odd, strange or 'too good to be true' it may well be a phishing attack
- Don't assume that someone is who they say they are
- Inform us of any suspicious emails or pop-up windows
Phishing emails can be reported to spam collection (spam@glos.ac.uk) which is monitored by our IT team.
Your Device
Please ensure all your devices have the latest operating system & security updates applied. If you check your device settings you can usually find that you can set updates to be downloaded and installed automatically. Also ensure that all your devices have anti-virus / anti-malware software installed and is kept up-to-date.

- Online module guides, assessment briefs, and electronic assignment submission
- Core university technologies including Mahara e-portfolios, Planet eStream (audio/video) and Jisc Online Surveys (survey research tool)

Connect to the internet from your University accommodation.

We provide a wired internet connection for people that require a fast-stable internet connection e.g. gaming, streaming, computing etc.
How do I connect?
If your device has a web browser
- Your device will need to have an Ethernet port or you'll need to provide an Ethernet adapter and you'll need to provide your own Ethernet cable.
- Connect your device to the network point in your room.
- On your device, open a web browser like Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- If you're prompted by a security warning, click Continue or Advanced then 'Continue to this site'. This will take you to our registration page.
- Follow the online instructions to register your device. You can register one device per room.
If your device doesn't have a web browser to complete registration we'll register the device for you:
- Connect your device to the network point in your room.
- Send the following information to ITandLibrary@glos.ac.uk
- Student number
- Halls address
- Device Type (e.g. Xbox)
- Wired MAC address: The wired MAC address can be found in the device network settings
